Long locks are a popular beauty standard for females all over the world. We all want to be considered attractive be the people we are attracted to. Many woman all over the world try to achieve this goal by added physical accessories. Human hair extensions are a good example. I can't say I haven't tried them myself. But at what cost is this option enabled?

Zeitgeist: The Black Perspective #1

Zeitgeist is a documentary that came out in 2007. It is the first of two parts and as time will pass I will add the second part to this blog.

Mom Was Right? #1 : Tom& Jerry Skit

Mom was right? Is an aspect of my blog that targets one of my childhood warnings. As everyone who has been raised in a very religious family, I was prohibited to do certain things and watch certain programs.

Most cartoons were considered too violent, occult or useless. The only cartoon I was always allowed to watch was Tom & Jerry. Little did my mother know that those cartoons can be creepy too.

Is One Race Smarter Than The Other?

Channel 4,a British channel, has had a series of documentaries that were focused on Race and Science. At first I was a bit skeptical because I felt that a British channel would probably keep the documentaries informative and avoid controversy. Little did I know that they would be an eye-opener for me and everyone I have introduced them to.

Race: Science's Last Taboo is a series of six documentaries that focus on different aspects of science and race. The first part is about Race and Intelligence. In the following weeks i'll post the other parts.

The Tyra Banks Show - ''African American women's hair''

As promised here is the entire episode of the Tyra Banks Show, where she addresses black people's hair issues.

Some purists will argue that Tyra has extensions in here cornrows and her hair is relaxed. Besides, her entire career has been filled with weaves, wigs and other additional hairpieces. One could state that she is just jumping on the bandwagon of "Loving your natural beauty".

Maybe this is a good positive step into a new era. What is your opinion people?

Good Hair vs. Nappy Hair??

It has been awhile since my first post. Why? Because I didn't know how to put in words how I felt. It was like life was living me instead of me living life. BUT the dedication is back and today I want to adress GOOD HAIR. I would like to state that I prefer calling nappy hair "coiled hair", because it suits us better and nappy is a demeaning term that I will adress another time.

Chris Rock has made this movie/documentary (GOOD HAIR)about the hair issues that we black women cope with. According to him his daughter asked him why she had BAD hair. This heartbreaking question inspired him to investigate what was going on (and of course throw in the occassional joke) and show his findings to the world. The trailer can be peeped down here:

Now, Tyra Banks has followed Chris by dedicating numerous shows to loving yourself, nappy hair-issues, racial conflicts and many more. Soon I will post the a couple of those episodes so you all can check them out. What have these isues to do with black people outside of de US? Black women like me?

Well... I could act like these issues are all posttraumatic disorders due to having slaves as ancestors and slavery as a legacy. Unfortunately you find the hair weaves, wigs, hair straighting and other ways of nappy hair damage EVERYWHERE. That is any place where nappy headed-people live.

This mother seems evil and full of hatred against her child's beautiful hair. Unfortunately a lot of black people don't know how to deal with their African hair. So we weave, straighten, burn and damage our hair just so it doesn't look NAPPY.

Don't get me wrong I am not saying that wearing hair weaves is a sign of a psychological "I hate my African Roots"-disorder. Sometimes in life a woman doesn't have the time to properly take care of her locks so she needs an easier way out: Hair Straightner or Extensions (including weaves). However, when you grow up without knowing HOW to take care of your natural hair, you will have a hard time loving it or keeping it natural. My point is, avoiding the existence of nappy can lead to the constant urge for hair that isn't naturally yours.

Slavery might have been something that happend in the Americas but a great part of Africa was taken over by Europeans. While slaves were shipped to the shores of the US, Belgians were cutting of peoples hands after not meeting the rubber quota, the Portugese where creating their own apartheid andother Europeans created a Golden Age by robbing Black Africa of her many natural resources.

When you are treated like an inferior person for 400 years you're bound to believe you are inferior to the "superior" people. Whether you were a slave or a suppressed person.
So we all suffer and are in need of healing.

What is your opinion on this?
